The Starfish Throwers
April 26, 2014
The Starfish Throwers will likely do two things to you: 1) inspire you to do more to make a difference in the world, and 2) make you reevaluate your priorities in life.
The documentary features three individuals making a difference in the world – in their own way. One man from India starts by simply feeding those on the dirty streets of India (and then goes well beyond that in his journey to help). A former school teacher in Minneapolis continued his helping of those less fortunate after he retired – now providing sandwiches, clothing, and other items those on the streets when most other resources are closed for the night. He pretty much gets a few hours sleep a day, at most. The final featured person is a girl who realizes how much a cabbage grown as part of a class project could go towards feeding those less fortunate. That turns into a bigger garden for her – and on it went, inspiring others around the country to help feed those with less.
It speaks to picking one small issue and focusing on that to make a difference. i.e. Little things do make a difference.
It’s a beautifully shot documentary: 4/5.
